the spring that rests against the fork is to aply another gear synchro slightly I believe to slow sown the countershaft for reverse shift to help avoid the evil gear clash as to the other spring you mentioned Ive only built externaly centered 5 speeds & I dont remember seeing the torsional spring you mentioned
the only other thing you should know is if you have the pinion bearings set rite they feel excessively tight I think spec is to wrap a rope around the pinion bearing housing & that it should take 10 lbs pull to rotate the housing thats damm tight I set mine this way & have been runnin higher than stock boost for a couple of years & it still sounds great but I dont bark gears I shift smoothely & roll on the throttle also redline synth is great stuff Ive run it for the 30Kmi I have on my trans & its still holding together
