Having read your post on the 9000 board, I'm not convinced that this
is such a good idea. Your diesel mechanic plans on cutting the
stock downpipe, close to the turbo, then sticking on some 3" bits.
What, exactly, does 'close to the turbo' mean? As far as I can tell,
it sounds like he's going to cut after the first 180º curvature. This
would make sense because the JT is designed the same way. The
first bend (180º) maintains the stock diameter, in order to mate to
the turbo flange. However, it's that part of the stock downpipe that
produces all the turbulence and restriction. On the JT, that 180º
curvature is done with pieces/sections of bent pipe and the curvature
is quite a bit larger than on the original - on the stock downpipe, it's a tight curve & not a very smooth transition. Now, I'm not an
exhaust 'expert', but the guy who welded my system together,
Mario Bratkon, is. He's done custom exhaust systems on race
cars, antiques, hot-rods, bikes, trucks - you name it, he's done them.
When I asked him how much it would cost to custom fabricate
a downpipe, after having seen the JT, he said it would be maybe
twice the cost (I paid $200 for mine). When one considers what
Saab gets for their downpipe, and then considers what the JT
costs, it's hard to imagine anyone building anything that can
compare to the JT for less......just my $.02
