I'm gonna do the same thing on my 88' 9000T in a 2 months. I already have the head and I sent it to Lesco (Dave) in Cali for some port/polish and other work. There's nothing wrong with my car as is, I just want more power so that's what's driving me towards this. I am going to use the 2.0L intake on mine and simply port match it to fit the 2.3L head, that's easy enough. I don't know anything about the chain/cam gear area needing work so tht's new to me. I also believe that I read here that the 2.3L heads don't have as many provisions for sensors and such. All in all I have read as you that the swap is an easy one (I'm gonna do it myself) and I haven't heard of many problems others have encountered doing theirs so yes this is the route you'd want to go. There are a few guys here that's done it, and hopefully they'll chim in cause like you, I too could always use more info.
See Ya,
Phil
