Bend a heavier gauge of steel to the exact size. Pre-cut and tap the holes before installation. Grind off old piece and weld in new, then paint it all around to head off the rust.
Easy to describe, but this will take time due to tight working space, (unless you pull your engine).
Please let me know how you resolve this. We used to deal with stuff like this in my auto interior shoppe (even though it ain't quite interior), and if I am seeing what your picture is showing, I think this is the best fix. As my Brother-in-law owns a modified Aero, I want to know what you did to repair much as one would watch a movies coming attractions.
