DIY valve seat grinding

Along with a DIY port and polish on my 8V head, the valve seat and valve mating surfaces are due for a regrinding. The surfaces look quite sound as the donor head was from a n/a engine with near 100K miles. They look fine to the eye, that is. But beneath a magnifying glass the developing problems are evident. Mostly on the intake valve seats.
Today I went in search of the valve seat grinding suction cup that affixes to the valve top surface which then attaches to a rotary drill. None to be found in my local area. Then while shopping at a specialty tool company I came upon an alternate valve grinding tool - a rubber sanding disc with adhesive on the flat face, also designed for use with a rotary drill. The rubber disc is designed so that various grit paper discs can be affixed to it for sanding wood, metal or paint. The smallest size was 2" diameter, and since it's made of rubber it can be cut down to fit with the smaller valve diameter. The adhesive will work just fine in place of the suction cup to grip and spin the valve face. It's an adhesive that remains on the rubber so won't be a mess afterwards. In place of the adhesive one could use something like double sided tape between the rubber and valve surface for a grip. I also bought a small can of metal grinding paste. Total cost - less than $10.
