actually lapping works fine but you cant take a whole lot off of it unless you have a year to do it. your plan as it stands will not work tho. you will def need the suction cup as it gets pretty messy and multiple passes are required. what matters most though is guide wear. the spec should be in bently. just make sure you keep grit out off the stem and out of the guide. i pull one cup off the two cupp hand tool and chuck it in the drill.
you need to turn slow and lift and reseat. it is almost as fast by hand.
if you have some suspect valves or seats with black "pits" ( unground areas) you may have to get a full valve job. i've valve lapped lots of old valves with great success. better than it was!! :)
