they gave him a print out outlining a majority of what causes a car to fail the different emissions categories (the car was an 86 900t with 300k). So we went down the list looking at possible problems (I think I still have the list somewhere, I'll try to dig it up). Anyway i forget what category he failed but me thinks it was CO. So we replaced the o2, gave it a tune up reset the timing (funny, i told him to tune and time BEFORE he went in) checked AMM and looked for other obvious issues. The list also mentioned knock and coolant temp sensor's so we swapped those in from another motor I had in the garage with 150k on it (figured 1/2 the mileage and wear, can't hurt) when he went back, it flew through with no problems.
Something else is carbon, I assume this shouldn't be a problem for you since the motor was just built.
BTW, this is the motor with the crank case vent right? Could that be part of the reason it's failing cause it changes yourparameters, just a thought.
Does anyone out here have a crank case vent and pass emissions with it?
I dread inspection
hope this helped and good luck
