Went skiing yesterday and pushed the car hard during the eight mile uphill drive. Temps were in the high 20's (F). Driving at 20-35 mph the temps in the tranny climbed over 100 degrees on three occasions. The cooler set up worked well--I flipped the dash mount switch and counted to ten and started watching the gauge drop quickly. It would take about five minutes for the gauge to start climbing again after turning off the pump.
You could use a Autometer 200 degree F grounding temp switch in the diff to ground your relay for truely idiot proof use.
I run the pump for an hour on the way home and it didn't fail so mayby Rob is right about the fuel pump. Tranny temps dropped off the bottom of the gauge. If the fuel pump fails I will move up to the Pegasus oil pump that moves about 1-2 gallons per minute. With the bosch pump I was getting 3-5 psi on the inline gauge.
All and all a cool upgrade that was not too difficult or expensive. I spent about 100 bucks on plumbing parts. Using the Pegasus Pump and steel braided line and fittings would raise the cost over $400.
