Mark J. gave me a verbal discription of what he saw on a 900 at ScanWest one day. The motivation behind doing this came from seeing the National Champrion Pro Rally 99 (Shaun Tennis's ScanWest sponsored car) at the first SCS dyno day. Had a long talk with Rob about the reasons for the big tranny cooler in the car. I just through the system together in the evenings the past few weeks to see if it would actually work and what kind of benefit I would gain. I did not want to spend a lot of money and not have it work that well. Later I will add a better pump and maybe go to better (lighter and stronger)lines. For Vince and John....
1. Total cost was about $110. I have had good luck with the push loc hose for oil coolers. Find out the best hose shop in your community and make friends with the guys there. I am fortunate to have a shop that deals with sprint cars (Earls products). I had a couple of the H motor Saab coolers and five fuel pumps on a shelf so that helped reduce the cost. You also would not need the earls pressure mount and gauge. I was curious as to the pressure of the lines. The earls in line filter was purchased off ebay for far less than new. If you need a cooler search ebay under Setrab. They are the best and are regurly up for sale. My current engine oil cooler is a baffled racing 6 X 13 inch setrab (Made in Sweden) and was purchased for 40 bucks.
2. Fittings; the guys at the shop told me to ditch the banjo bolts so they sold me a metric to 6an fitting with o ring that have worked well so far. I have been using threadlocker tread sealer on all my connections for a couple of years now.. It is white and visible in the picture of the oil cooler. I prefer it to tape. Another recommendation from the shop. No problem with leaking.
