I had the opportunity to drive that particular engine for quite some time, my father had a 99 forester that had that engine. A lot of torque and a decent amount of power especially considering it was paired with an automatic. Never had the chance to drive a subaru manual but the engine ain't bad at all. I do agree about the interior though. The chassis as well, which in the forrester is shared with the imprezza, was pretty nice, real stiff, and it handled nice especially considering it had a small SUV body on it. I think the car, if paired with a proper Saab interior with a good manual, and of course, a nice turbo engine in adition to the 2.5 could make a hell of a little sports car. Especially with AWD to put the power to the pavement. Just my 2 cents.
