If the 2.5 is the subaru boxer engine, yes, it's a very nice engine. I just bought and daily drive an Outback with a five-speed manual. When I test drove the manual vs. auto, the manual was a COMPLETELY different car. The manual really puts the power to the road. The auto seemed soft. The 2.5L isn't as torquey as an inline-4 but once you get it up to 3K RPM, it's real nice. The interior of the Subaru is real nice also. Next year, Subaru is putting turbos into the 2.5L Baja, Legacy, and the Forester. Apparently they are attempting to put more torque into the low-end.
