What kind of problems were you having (understeer, traction, all of the above?)... New tires will probably help if yours are badly worn. Also get a good alignment.
As for dedicated tires: Hoosiers A compound are the fastest, but Kumhos are close and a lot cheaper. The lightest wheel I could find was the SSR GT1's. Get the tires in the 225/45/r17 size.
VRK you don't want since it will throw you into the Modified classes for the sub-frame brace and steering brace; assuming someone is watching for it. Also, I doubt it would help much anyway since you are almost always turning, and I've never experienced the tugging during Solo II, but have had steering response issues that it might help make disappear...
I did have a pretty good weekend walking away with a 2nd and 3rd place trophy in GS... BTW: I'm currently running Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, which I would not recommend for Solo II, but strongly recommend for the track.
