I already have extensive mods to my Viggen (see this post: http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/performance/index.html?bID=64638) and am maxing out at around 300 hp. I believe that the stock turbocharger is being pushed to its limit at this level. I would like to see around 350 and believe that upgrading the turbocharger would be the next logical step (and that last one for me!).

I can't seem to nail down any definitive answers though. You're right... putting a Garret compressor wheel in a mitsu turbo does sound suspect, but Tommy from Turbochargers.com assured me this would work. It's a HECK of a lot cheaper than buying a whole new turbo... $525 for the compressor wheel upgrade.

I was just out fiddling around with it...seeing what has to be done to get the turbo off... I am pretty mechanically inclined, but don't want to get over my head with taking that thing off and then having something go wrong when trying to reinstall. I like to take my time with things and am pretty sure I could get it off no problem (would probably take me like 5 hours though!!!)... it's just putting it back on that I am nervous about... there are so many things that could unexpectedly go wrong (it's never as easy as you think it's going to be)... especially with a turbo that's a very sensitive piece of the puzzle.

I don't know what to do at this point... any more input would be really appreciated.

Thanks!
