Here is our GT40 waiting to be bolted to our massaged B234L:

GT-series of turbos are heads and shoulders over older generation of turbos (T3, TD04 etc.) and lightyears from Flintstones-turbos like KKK K27 etc.
A friends friend is running GT42 (plain bearing, not BB) with big exhaust housing (a tad bigger snail than GT40) in his stroked 2.2L BMW 2002 engine and his boost-treshold is at 3000 RPM! That's what i call good turbo design!
I believe our GT40 will have boost treshold at around 2800 RPM and support enough flow for 450+ HP
BB bearing-housing will lower spool-up time but it will also lower turbos life to around 16000 miles. BB always make mechanical contact and usualy wear out after a while (which doesn't matter if you are in mucho $$$ racing), but will lower friction (actualy adhesion) parasitic losses. Plain oil-film bearings doesn't wear at all when at speed, only when you start and stop your engine so they can theoretically last forever (trucks with GT40 usually run for over half million miles without bearing failure, altough turbine usually gets eaten up from the sulphure in diesel-fuel).
So yes, they are nice turbos allright. I speced internal wastegate as i don't like extra weight/price of external one, despite it's ricer appeal.
