Hi,
Have a Maptun/Abbott Racing modified 1997 Saab 9000 Aero which is running the Maptun Stage 4. MapTun recommendation is for a colder plug for power outputs above 300hp - which mine is running. Thye recommend the NGK BCR8ES. Apparently, MapTun's experience is that the standard BCPR7ES plugs tend to have a shortened life with the higher output modifications. MapTun advise against the Platinum for anything other than the standard vehicle. I know some of the dealers in Australia sometimes convert across to the Platinum plugs.
I have fitted the BCR8ES plus and have noticed better engine temperature regulation with these plugs. With the standard plugs, I had started to notice large variations on the temperature gauge in the car and suspect the standard plugs were probably producing too much heat particularly under boost and causing the cylinder head temperarture to fluctuate - the in cabin temperature guage sensor is off the cylinder head whereas the Trinonic temeparture sensor is off the engine block.
Standard plug gapping is 1.0mm whereas the BCR8ES is 0.8mm.
Cheers
Tony
