An obd1 ecu will work fine in an obd2 car. Yes it has a check engine light but I have never had any problems with the gas making excessive noise. Usually these problems happen for another reason. Who installed the ecu? Most problems with ecu's happen during install. In my case I had a hard starting engine with a really high engine temp. I changed the battery, temp sensors and O2 sensors thinking that these were the problems but the real problem happened during the install. The ecu harness can be very fragile and one of the wires became ungrounded causing all my problems. I isolated it to the car and not the ecu by replacing the ecu with another one and had the same problem so I then knew that it was not the Abbott ecu but the car. I then had to check the grounds using WIS and found my problem in the ecu harness in the engine temp sensors. The problem took about three days to fix once I was on the right track. If you have an tech2 it might be worth the time checking out the complete engine to see if everything is within normal limits(WNL). If something is not WNL then you probably have a bad ground there.
