These are hydrocarbon ring molecules which are termed 'aromatics'. These constitute 15 - 40% of gasoline depending on the market. The highest concentrations of aromatics are found in European gasolines.

So no effect on sensors, just a small adjustment in things that are in your fuel already.

If a vehicle is holding back on boost because of low octane, anthing that you do to increase the octane will allow the ECU do go after more boost.

When you finish off that tank of fuel, next fill of gas is a different situation. So nothing lasts tank to tank.

When I return to 92, I feel the occasional bogg at full throttle, where I am guessing that the ECU is retarding the timing and it feels unresponsive. And sometimes I notice the effect of a power surge when getting off of WOT. That seems to be the ECU getting the timing right. These things have been reported by other 9-5 owners. I don't know if its Aero specific or not. For me the things are marginal, but all of this is proof to me that 92 octane is marginal. So the reports of things like this would seem to indicate that others have octane issues as well.

It would be good to see some others with such symptoms to try this to confirm. Without that I am one voice in the net.
