I'd like to describe why I like the clutch!
The torque rating of a clutch is based on material, surface area, and clamping force, right? To increase the torque rating one option is to use material with higher coeff. of friction only that's either abrasive on the flywheel, or grabby and noisy, etc. Jak uses different material on each side which saves wear on the flywheel and is a reasonable compromise. Another method is use more clamping force, as with the super sach clutch. Well, that requires more pedal effort and extra fluid pressure on the cheap grade "not for brakes" flexible clutch hose section. Not to mention Jak's idea of extra load on the crank thrust bearing. The great part about the multi disc clutch is it doesn't need large diameter discs. With more than one friction disc you don't need as much clamping force and it can use regular 'ole friction material. Everyone talks about total clutch/flywheel weight but only steve mentioned moment of interia. A car will accelerate faster the lighter it is, right? Well, rotational acceleration works the same only the "weight" part isn't as simple. The closer (overall) the weight is to the center..the faster the crank can accelerate. That means faster engine spinup! Sorry if I'm preaching to the choir! The only downside to the clutch is the reality of $$$.
