Question about obtaining a STABLE boost level...

I am about to get an 85 SPG and will be using it only for track events and auto-X, as I have no license for a while. I have noticed that with APC (I've had two SPG's before this one), it's very hard to get the boost to stay at a given level throughout the entire RPM range. Be it because of the APC boost fade at higher RPM or through it sensing knock, it always seems to cut boost back, leaving high RPM power somewhat lacking. Now I know about the safety of the APC system and high boost+high RPM can be dangerous, but as this will be a track car I will take the proper precautions to limit detonation via intercooling, fuel enrichment, and combustion cooling with H20 injection.
My question is, has anyone been able to keep APC and not have to deal with boost cut backs and such? Seems that with the right setup, the APC's only limiting factor would be it's preset boost limit, not knock.
Easy option, obviously is to go with an MBC, so how high are some peoples' boost w/ an MBC? Thanks in advance.
