To use the Ethyl RT-70 non-linear blending model, you'd need fit model paramaters to results from many batches over the expected range you'd want to use the model.
The two equations in the model contain a total of six parameters which would have to be estimated.
For each component in the blend you'd need the RON, MON, olefins content, and aromatics content.
Then you'd need the RON and MON for each batch.
Then you'd perform a regression analysis to fit the parameters to the data.
That's why I'd stick with the assumption of linearity for our purposes.
For Saabnet masochists, the model equations can be found in section 2.1.2 of the following reference:
Modeling and Model Updating in the Real-Time Optimization of Gasoline Blending, aseema Singh, Univ of Toronto, 1997 (A Master's Dissertation, this guy didn't develop the nonlinear model but is using it in his work.)
There is actually some interesting general discussion of the gasoline blending problem here.
