True EVS, but a transmission with a primary drive ratio that spins it faster "sees" less torque. Horsepower is the only constant in transferring power to the wheels. Torque depends on gear ratios, wheel sizes etc.
It is somewhat accurate to say that a transmission that spins faster doesn't break as easily. Think about it ... torque = hp/RPM ... it applies to transmissions as much as engines, raise the rpm without raising the horsepower and you have less torque. Of course high primary ratios also a) cause high overall gear ratios, which won't make you accellerate too terribly quick, or b) increase strain on the final drive ratio at the differential, and c) increase bearing wear.
C900's actually have a pretty good ratio from the factory, any more and while they might be harder to break, they'd wear out WAY faster.
