at ease is scanwest autosport in seattle. they have been rally racing saabs for many years and have experience with racing everything from the older 99's, og900's and ng900's.
they did have an og900 turbo they raced at 8000+ rpm with stock internals and had no problems with valve float, flywheel shattering, and eveything else people tend to believe. they also ran a ng900 up to 10k rpm for racing. not up to speed on what exactly they modified internally for that engine.
it hasn't really been discussed here before because it really hasn't happened. too often people assume that because something happens to an engine in one vehicle make, that it must happen in others.
but the reason it hasn't happened here is probably a result of:
1. noone with the stock ecu has been running 7k rpm.
2. and, with a daily driver, even if you have the ability to run up to 7k rpm, you aren't doing it consistently.
fwiw, 7k rpm isn't a magic number. it is only 800 rpm more than stock and with the safety and durability margin saab built their engines, you aren't really causing much more harm than you would be if you consistently drove at 6200 rpm.
unless you are planning on racing a saab engine well above 7k rpm where your shift points don't bring you much below 7k rpm, i wouldn't be too concerned. just my two cents....
