Chad,
Dave New makes a good recommendation regarding TCS but the 2.3 liter motors are very similar with respect to reliability. The 1991-1992 9000T were the first 2 years of the 2.3 liter motors and uses an earlier BOSCH LH fuel management system as well as direct ignition and APC boost control (DI/APC). These systems are typically easier to troubleshoot and upgrade and will allow for more engine updates without "upsetting" the engine management systems. The 1991-1992 9000 allow for more DIY engine upgrades.
The 1993 and up 9000T employs a TRIONIC engine management wherein all engine management functions are monitored/controlled from one ECU. These systems are just as capable RE performance but would require a complete update of ECU and are considered more difficult to troubleshoot unless dealer/SAAB serviced.
Best Regards!
GSK @ SWEDISH DYNAMICS,INC.
