Use Clevite 77 bearings who's boxes actually contain the best ever made Vandervell lead-indium overlay V-series bearings. Clevite and Vandervell are owned by the same company and are evidently using up their Saab Vandervell inventory however I believe they are keeping Vandervell for their European applications so hopefully we'll keep seeing Vandervell bearings in Clevite 77 boxes for Saab's! These bearings have the proper eccentricity for better oiling than the OEM (Glyco?) bearings and also have a hardened steel back. Always be careful that you don't end up with .001" too much clearance regardless of what bearing manufacturer you use! Saab cranks are almost .001 under new from the factory and use a graded bearing to get their clearances right. We resize our rods and align hone our Saab main housing bores to small spec. to deal with this problem but mostly so we can use the bearings we prefer. The other way around this would be to order the thickest grade of standard OEM bearings available from a Saab dealer which should yield a tight .002" oil clearance on the rods and a loose .002" on the mains. If it was a Chevy or Ford (and probably even a Honda?) Clevite 77 V type bearings would be available at .001 under but unfortunately we don't have that luxury with a Saab!
