When I first had my car converted to a manual tranny, it was wearing Pirelli P4000ST tires, later P6000SV. While quite and all, neither were the ultimate in dry grip, such that I found I could spin the tires in second gear going straight on dry roads, even with stock power! That was actually kind cool, never had a car that could do that before.
Since I've switched to non-all season flat out performance tires, I find the engine power is much more suited to the grip of the tires, especially since I have begun adding more power. I don't really go crazy in second much - usually let up the throttle by the time I reach 4500 rpm or so and hit third. However, by the feel of the car, I think I could safely punch it in second without much wheelspin. First gear on the other hand..
But I AM still running 205/55VR15 tires, there's only so much you can expect... :)
