Not sure if that's the answer Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Tue, 2 Mar 2004 15:36:06 In Reply to: Re: Do Poly suspension bushings have to squeek?, lms, Tue, 2 Mar 2004 10:11:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Thanks for the feedback. I would almost be willing to try the groove/grease fittng approach (have seen this on some sway bar bushings), but it does not account for the inner surface of the bushing that contacts the crush tube. I believe that this is the source of the sound, as it seems easier for the crush tube to rotate in the bushing (small surface area) vs. the bushing rotating in the carrier (large surface area, stronger grip?). The ends of the bushing are well lubed. My thought now is to press out the crush tube, lube, replace. Or just forget the whole thing and get new rubber bits!
FYI, I found this quote on a V*lvo site: 'Do not use Delrin in place of rubber or polyurethane bushings in Volvo passenger cars. Delrin's reputation as "synthetic stone", a nickname applied to the material by duPont's Assistant Research Director Frank C. McGrew in the 1950s, is well-earned!'
