Actually that is a not-very-funny joke, as there is no fender lip on a c900!
I have a set of "big" wheels and tires that will not fit in the existing
fender area, and I started cutting this weekend to make room! See the link
for a few pics of front fender re-shaping (page 4 of album)
Wheels: Centerline 17 x 7" with 40mm offset (front no spacer, rear 10mm spacer)
Tires: Hoosier 225/45-17" R3S04 slicks (measures 235mm width!)
How big are they? I test mounted and drove them for about 15 miles mixed
city/highway, then made the following observations:
Front:
1) both tires rub on 3 middle coils of front spring (straight ahead and turning)
2) both tires rub on fender lip (10 o'clock to 2 o'clock)
Rear:
1) both tires rub on rear shock "bulge"
2) both tires rub on bolt head of rear link mount to body
3) both tires rub on torx bolt heads - parking brake bracket
4) both tires rub on fender lip (12 o'clock to 2 o'clock, biased to rear)
5) left rear rubs on sheet metal between #1 and #2
Ouch. Much work to do. I'll report back when I know something!
