Turbo experts need advice and input fast!!!

Hi.
I've decided to keep the SPG (see my post below)!
So, as long as I'm going to do this, I want to put in a better turbo than the tired stock Garrett T3. I was planning on going w/ the TE05 w/ the big 16G wheel and the Texas Monster Thrust Bearing (that just sounds cool, doesn't it??).
Anyway, I wanted to see what James at Group9 Performance had to say on this. His turbo guy says that an 18G wheel would be worth while. Tommy from Turbochargers.com says that he thinks that the 18G wheel would create undue lag and would need to be clipped (extra $75) and could possible lead to internal engine problems due to the increased compression that it would cause (vs. the big 16G).
My goal is to minimize lag, thereby improving low end get up and go.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks,
Michael
