For anyone who's read my posts over on the 900 board, you'll know that I'm about to replace a busted valve spring this weekend. My SPG, which has thousands of dollars of repairs and upgrades into it, doesn't run right now. Having recently been driving my boss' M5 and WRX STi, it's been very tempting to buy one (an STi, I can't afford a BMW).
Still, when I drive home in my oil-burning alfa spider and see her sitting there in my driveway, I fall in love all over again. Sure, she creaks and moans, the leather on the seats is coming apart, the headliner still needs to be replaced, and I'm always chasing my tail tweaking, but I wouldn't have it any other way. My 900 is the only car I've ever worked on myself and the only car I've ever done performance work to -- my mechanic still thinks I'm crazy ("you'll just blow the tranny... go buy a RWD"). Anyway, for me it's been a learning experience and one that's been worth every penny. When she drives like a dream, I know it's because of me. So, while I spend my saturday trying to figure out how to install this new valve spring, I'll be pissed off and angry, but in the end I'll love that SPG even more.
