I have light steel fw on my rwd turbo track car. Mainly for improved shifting ... turbos are overflyweeled and sluggish in heel-toe type shifting. My light steel reduced inertia of fw and clutch cover pair by 30%, per my measurments and calculations, and I noticed a diff. An alum fw will reduce inertia of pair about 60%.
Light fw's improve shifting, and add wheel power in low gears, esp 1 and 2. No real wheel power effect in 4th or 5th.
If you enjoy lazy driving, with ac on, alum may not be for you as ac can roughen idle, and take-offs are a bit trickier. Lightened oem steel is a good option for all, esp if clutch is about to be replaced.
