Any engine gurus out there?

I very carefully removed a non-DI engine and tranny from an 89 9000T with all it's electrical and am wondering about using it in a different fairly heavy duty application. I don't need a lot more raw horsepower of out it - but am trying to figure out a way raise the torque into the 390fp neighbourhood at relatively low RPM - say 3,000 range.
Anyone have any interesting thoughts?
