Therein lays the problem and I'm thinking, perhaps incorrectly, that the target may be controlling much higher compression/boost to achive the low rev grunt I'm hoping for as long as I'm not looking for high end power. I'm sort of trying to see if there might be any rational way to replace a 403 (7.7 liter) olds motor so as to reduce fuel consumption and front end weight.

There are a lot of good modern options of course, but, the idea of moving to a very small 2.0 turbo unit is not without it's appeal - if it were possible to drop the revs into some sane range.

I am very struck that my 93 aero takes advantage of the higher compression and boost to provide a pretty good fuel economy while making a lot of torque low down.

Now, I'm not parting out the AERO on a bet - but - was wondering as the 2.0 engine is sitting around awaiting a home and what the heck, I may have another application for it outside a SAAB body shell.

Anyway - all ears - anyone have any idea what the absolute top end of compression is on the 2.0 block? It's a an old school steel mill and I remember the triump rover blocks making compression that rivaled the moon program.. :) ..
