Ill bet it takes friggin 10 years for any dammage to ocurr from an external spring in fact just about everyone else on the turbocharging plannet uses this method
also with a low WG spring tension the high exhaust pressures can actualy blow the WG open below 8ish lbs base trying to hit 20 LBS boost this is because the exhaust pressure can exceed 2 times boost pressure & if that hole that the flap covers is one inch diameter you may have over 40 lbs pressure pushing against it trying to open it at full boost
trying to adjust a stock actuator to or above 8 lbs is rite where spring stacking starts limiting the WG movement
also a measurable lateral load (breakin out the 50 cent words) canot be placed on the diaphram if the spring is in line with the arm it just takes a lil thought
you take the high road Ill take the low road or you say tomatoe & I say potatoe
its cool you have your way & I have mine
take care
