the reason you run an external spring is to get more pressure like you said but when you just crank in the rod yu dont get that much adjustment & it can lead to spring stacking which can limit the WG travel & flow
if you feel you have "lag" brought on by boost controller (diapc) modulation you could crank it up a few pounds & see if you like it
in my poinion it is better than a MBC because bost MBCs Ive seen give more of a spike & fallback type boost whereas the external spring makes for a more level base boost setting
give it a shot if you dont like it you can allways remove it I wouldent go any higher than 8-10 LBS base on that setup I run 16 lbs base boost
