Blew the intercooler intake boot... Posted by Jon [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I was pulling back onto the interstate and heard a loud noise that sounded like the boot coming off the throttle body, except the car didn't stall. I pulled over and opened the hood to find the boot on the inlet to the intercooler had a very large split. I removed the boot and cut the top and bottom from a 20 oz. Pepsi bottle. I slid the boot inside the Pepsi bottle and reinstalled the boot on the intercooler. I tightened the clamps and restarted the car. I took it easy on the way home, trying not to go very far into boost. I made it home, more than 100 miles, and replaced the boot with a used one. This was on my 91 Platana gray SE, automatic trans, stage II APC. I was boosting about 16-17 PSI when the boot failed.
