...he did a lot of experimenting with intercoolers on a wide range of racing engines, including racing 'vettes. He noted that it's critical to keep a high velocity of charge air through the core - high velocity promotes good "scrubbing" between the air and cooling surfaces, resulting in higher cooling efficiency. He tested a bunch of cores and found the best, in terms of cooling effectiveness and low pressure restriction, were used in Mack trucks. He marketed some cores from Blackstone that performed well. He also found that using parallel-cores, in engines less than 400 in^3, resulted in lower charge air velocity, resulting in poor effectiveness. With smaller displacement engines, he always used series installation where one cooler fed into the other.....just a thought. It's interesting that his testing was never done on a dyno - the track gave air flow through the intercooler that a dyno could never provide.
