This gap can be adjusted to some extent. The casting mounts with two 10mm hex head bolts. These go through slots not holes. The casting can then rotate. The rubber coupling can then be fitted before the bolts are tight. This will allow for some center to center SELF alignment which is important.
The tube also mounts to the end of the engine with a clamp that pinches tight with two hex head bolts. The clamp mounts to the block with one bolt. You can slacked and free the hose joint at the hose from the intercooler, and slacken the three mouning bolts. The aluminum tang on the pipe that is captured in the clamp is slotted to allow adjustment, but that detail is well hidden until you take things apart.
With the casting bolts slack, adjust the casting and the pipe until you get the gap and alignment as good as you can. Then tighen down the three pipe clamp bolts and the far hose clamp. You will want the rubber clamping sleeve off for this.
The pipe can slide for and aft, and the pipe can rotate about the one bolt to the engine. So there is a fair degree of adjustment at hand.
Rubber sleaves absorb vibrations and thermal expansion motion. But in this instance, the value is in its ability to allow for easy removal of the casting. A non ballooned sleeve would be better.
