Well, meticulously installed the unit today. The good news is that I achieved high boost (20 psi) for the first time since last winter, but alas this ecstasy was short lived. The bad news is that something died-- not sure what.
In doing some tests adjusting the pressure switch, I noticed the lights would dim when the boost entered the range where you'd expect the WI to kick in. Not a good vibe. Further inspection revealed the blue and yellow wires going to the relay had melted their insulation exposing the bare wire. Here are some tests I ran after the fact:
(1) Shorting the pressure switch wires (COM and NO3) causes the fuse on the 12V ignition (relay #30) circuit to blow in the car. This should activate the WI system. The WI fuse going to 12V (battery) has not blown.
(2) Shorting relay #85 (12V) and 86 (GRD) causes a violent spark. This should activate the relay.
(3) Applying 12V to #87 going to the pump (+) and solenoid (+), only the solenoid activates. The pump seems dead.
I think the relay is fried for sure, but I don't know about the pump. It seems dead, too. I emailed Aquastealth, but they haven't been quick to respond in the past.
As for the pump location, I made a bracket and mounted it on the fender well top in front of the battery and relay box ('95 Aero), just a few inches behind the left headlight. Fits well there. This is literally the only place in the engine compartment I could've mounted this pump. The machine screws worked better than I thought, BTW, which is a good thing since I can't access the reverse of the fender well without much ado.
