I have an 88 turbo convert and have been slowly tuning on it. I really love putting the top down while cruising around but I'm starting to wish I had a hard top. Mainly because I'd like to start going to performance driving classes or track days and very few will allow a drop top with out some sort of roll bar. I don't think the conv. weighs a whole lot more than the 3dr., within a hundred pounds if I remember right. I just weighed mine on a truck scale (wanted a good number for the G-tech) and with 3/4 tank of gas it weighs 3020 lbs.

As far as noise goes, my car seems a little loud at WOT but at speed the wind noise easily covers any exhaust/engine noise. Plus with the top down you can really hear the turbo whine and BPV.

If you don't plan on track use and just want to out run the local imports I'd say to go with the drop top for the fun/style factor.
