I have a 88 spg, you have a 9000. All cars react differentley. Set it at 19, but to get this just right, you will have to map your cars timing. Yes, I turn the knob up when it's hot. This allows my car to boost higher, but not as strong. That's the good thing about having the knob in the car. If your not sustaining the leval of boost because of gas, heat then turn the dial up, but just a tad.I live in an area where the freewats have very long uphills grades. When boosting to 18 and holding it at the leveal while travelling uphill, your water temp will increase which inturns decreases boost. Turn the knob a tad and away you go. Just don't forget to turn it back down. Now if your driving in the city where you will reach only 10 psi in first, second and just a little in third before you let off, you can then turn the knob down to increase power/torque. I still have the apc so i'm covered if I turn it down to low.
Get yourself some extra vacuum line, a check valve, a stand up bicycle pump and an external boost guage. You hook the pump to the btm with guage inline, start car, pump air, watch guage and plot how much your timing is decreasing/lb of boost. When you reach your max boost-say 20, you want timing to be at 11.
