I recently performed the r40/42 mod with the 1.3k ohm resistor and jumper. Here are my results.

I installed the APC and started the car, and all was the same. I then went out to test it. My car wouldn't boost above base boost, and I went back and opened up the APC. To my horror, I had screwed up a solder joint. This is very rare for me. So I fixed it and went back out.

Same as before, except I left the case off for on-the-fly adjustment of the P and F pots. I eventually settled on F pot all the way up and P pot about 3/4. The car definately builds boost at a much quicker rate, and peak boost is definately much high, but I have encountered problems.

When throttle is applied the car will build boost quickly and often break the tires loose in the first 3 gears. The problem arises as I get up in the RPMS and the tires hook up. For example, in 4th gear freeway stints the boost gauge will sail up and then slowly back all the way down--nearly to base boost. You can feel the diminishing power with the rise in RPMS. It seems more a factor of time, of how long since the throttle plate was opened enough for full boost. I am not sure why this is, it didn't occur before the mod. This is quite disappointing, as this is when a turbo should shine.

Another issue I have encountered is with the stock boost gauge. Although I do realize it is not an accurate reflection of boost, it never does go up into the red. The car is obviously spiking in the 13-14 PSI range, but the gauge will just barely cross into the red. The turbo is sucking tons more air, and I tested the blow off valve which seems ok. I am not sure why this is. The car has good vaccuum as tested last.

I am going to try my friends MBC+A he just purchased for his 9000 Turbo project for a night or so, to see if there are any improvements. In the meantime thats my experience with the mod.
