I performed this type of operation in my 1990 9000S. I used parts from a 1988 9000 Turbo.
Your situation is different from mine, as is noted in the thread you are crossing between two different management systems. I only had minor differences, as both were Bosch LH jetronic (2.4 i believe) computer systems, non-DI.
My experience was very positive, in my opinion my 9000S with a light pressure turbo had vastly superior daily driving characteristics. I had torque down low, and it never ran out of power. I ran a mere 8 PSI, but on a high compression engine it seems to go a long way. The car was quicker than a stock 9000 turbo, although peak power was probably the same or maybe lower. The car drove completely different from a stock turbo, so keep that in mind. It didn't even seem like the same car.
The computer systems were left stock, save that I swapped in turbo injectors. The 9000S came with the 3.0 bar FPR, so although i was running alittle rich I wasn't as greatly risking damage from knock or lean-out.
