The threaded insert usually taps out, using the old bolt trhreaded most way in as a punch. The other option if stuck is to use a ~7/8 deep socket and the old bolt as a puller in from the 1/2" drive end with a washer or two to pull the insert out. You are at the easy part now. Great idea on the pipe cap. I will have to look into that. We are clsoed today for the holiday but I will mail you my Cell number.
