There can be electrical problems and mechanical problems such as fouling. So there is more than one thing to check for. If it will not pass air, then one can try shop air and solvent cleaning. Some reverse air flow makes sense. One can easily check for open coils with a meter. One nice thing about something that is clearly defective, you can then try some drastic measures to get it working again, nothing to loose, but that is another story.
So there are multiple approaches to a given problem. When someone presents a different method, it should be a learning experience, not what I see going in in this post.
