Update: low oil pressure issue with an 85 900 t Posted by Inga [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Some may already know the story but for those who don't here you go.
I have been replacing allot of my eng bay with freshly powdered parts. Intake, exhaust manifold, valve cover and so on. Well some where in the process I lost pressure. Not all but it was good. 10 psi at idle and at 2200rpm it only went up to about 20 maybe 25psi. Well I have been looking at my second oil cooler pre-turbo, Thinking the added oil "tank" might have been the cause. But I'd had the cooler for a couple months now and didn't see this drop. Well I ended up changing the oil filter for sh*ts and giggles and bam, oil pressure came back up. Now I'm reading no less then 20psi and at 2200RPM it's at 35-40psi.
What do you guys think of this? My first thoughts are I must have blown the oil filter out. (BTW it's an OEM oil filter (SAAB). If it was plugged, I'd think the pressure would be higher? But if I blew it out this might cause the pressure drop. (BTW I'm reading the VDO gauge that came stock on some models. also using the proper sending unit.)
Any thoughts would be great!!!
TIA
Tim
