Can't recall the K&N #
You can remove the grill of the vehicle by pulling up from the bottom, swing out and pull out and down. You can see the end of the snorkle tube. It is not a good design as far as entrance flow loss pressure drop is concerned. I removed that end section and heated it with a hot air gun to reshape it to be a 'big mouth'. As I heated it, I forced a bottle into the opening to open and flare it. You will want to loose the oblong shape and make it more round. Put some oil on the bottle to act as a lubricant. I used vegi oil, but almost anything would work. I think that this did help a bit, but it is hard to quanity that way. It might not increase HP but might have a good effect on responsiveness, but responsiveness is hard to measure and invisible on a dyno.
I will be interested in hearing others observations.
I have a 2003 9-5 Aero Wagon manual with SMBC and now with 3" turbo back. I believe that the OEM boost control creates boost delay. So that will mask changes to the actual turbo delay. The SMBC does make the turbo spool up at its native ability. With that then changes to the filter or airbox etc are much more apparent and not lost in the controller induced boost delay. The 2002+ (Aero's anyways) with the 5spd autoboxen really get on boost very fast and there might not be an issue with these boost delay aspects. The manual gear box limits the boost rate when the clutch work is concervative.
