Rich, your options are:
1. Leave it as it is. Original air intake system ( air inlet pipe, airbox, air filter ) is not the first bottleneck in this application at all. Replacement filters in original airbox ( K&N etc. ) are just waste of money in this application up to powerlevels 300 bhp. They can cause you some further problems with AMM as well. ( I dynoed my 9-5 to 341 bhp with original airbox and original paper filter. I had new, larger and shorter air inlet pipe, though )
2. Remove air inlet pipe or replace it with bigger one. Use original paper filter - or drop in filter, if you have too much money and you want to waste it :)
3. Remove air inlet pipe and drill some holes ( diameter 10mm or something like that ) into original airbox.
4. Remove original air inlet pipe and original airbox and use open air filter connected to AMM. With open air filter your engine sucks more dust, though, which is not good to your engine in the long run. One option is to use bigger paper filter - a la Mann - instead of original without air inlet pipe and air box.
NOTE: Original system is designed for different weather conditions. If you make modifications, there is always the risk to suck some water into your engine or ruin your AMM.
If I were you, and my tuning stage is below 300 bhp, I'd go for option 1.). If you're going to leave some serious power, ie. 400 bhp -> air intake system will be among dozens of other parts which you need change...
