Argh, pinging is particularly persistent! Possible causes?

As I wrote earlier, I upgraded to a 3.0 bar FPR last weekend, and reported that I didn't have pinging anymore. Well, it's back again! Nowhere near as loud as it was with th 2.8 bar FPR, and not as often, but still there, and thus still cutting back my boost. I am getting a tiny bit more boost now when it's not pinging, 15.5 to 16 psi, which is cool, but ARGH!
What can cause pinging, besides either not enough fuel, or fuel with too low an octane rating? I'm using the highest available here, almost always Chevron 92. The timing is at either 16 BTDC or 17 BTDC, I forget what it was when we checked it a few weeks back.
It's my understanding that ignition problems don't cause pinging, rather they could cause missing/detonation, which is not what I'm experiencing. (and in any case, all the ignition components are in excellent shape).
Thoughts? Do I still need more fuel for the kind of PSI I'm trying to develop? Needless to say I only get the pinging at high boost, above the stock of 11 psi....
