If it's very loose (like mine was), you'll notice the clunking often when letting out the clutch or shifting under load, on uphills etc. BTW this happened right after I installed Konis.
Open the hood and *with the handbrake engaged*, select reverse and partially let out the clutch as you would do normally. You will see the engine trying to lurch out of the hood, as if a motor mount was broken (which might also be the case). You might be able to see from the driver's seat through the crack between the hood and car, otherwise have a friend look from the outside.
If it's the subframe, it's just a matter of tightening a few bolts -it might be done for free. If it's a motor mount, at least the cost is somewhat reasonable (smth like $100-150). Good luck!
