At this weekends Porche Club PCA track event, my transmission stuck in fifth gear as I was downshifting to fourth at the end of our Back straight. (145 mph) The lever would not move It felt like it was welded to the chasis. After coasting through the impending series of S turns and a 90 degree I was able to finally get the shift lever to move freely and finally found second gear just as I made another turn onto the front straight at about 20 MPH, I had been coasting with the clutch in for about 1/2 mile. When I engaged the clutch the transmission dumped its guts. It sounded like a shovel of gravel in your clothes dryer.
I can only speculate that fifth and second gear were engaged at the same time because of something broken in the internal shifting mechanism.
The oil came out through the clutch housing so there is a hole in the case, probably the bell housing that forms the inner case.
Pictures will follow when I get it apart.
This gearbox is the one I built for my 9000 Aero with a Quaife Lsd and a shorter final drive ratio just for track use. It has been performing flawlessly for four or five years.
